A Pas Kelantan assemblyman said Muslim voters should vote for a Muslim Umno candidate if he or she is contesting against a non-Muslim Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate in the general election.
Gaal state assemblyman Datuk Dr Nik Mazian Mohamad told The Mole it is better to vote a Muslim to ensure that Islamic principles are defended.
“In choosing between a Muslim Umno candidate and a PKR candidate, a voter must evaluate which candidate is better.”
“If the PKR candidate is a non-Muslim, it is best for voters to vote the Umno candidate to safeguard the interest of Islam,” he added.
Dr Nik Mazian however stressed that between Umno and Pas candidates, it’s wajib (compulsory) for Muslim voters to vote Pas.
He also maintained the Pas stand that it is haram for Muslims to vote for Umno if its candidate is contesting against Pas' is considered haram (forbidden) for Muslims.
Dr Nik Mazian said: “It is haram for them to do so.”
Explaining his reason, Dr Nik Mazian said: “Muslims in this country has a better choice for a government that upholds the Islamic principle.”
“Only Pas has been upholding Islam in its struggle, unlike Umno and Barisan Nasional. It is a clear choice for Muslims, isn’t it?”
He added that Malaysian Muslims have two choice of leadership, the Islamic and non-Islamic governance and it is vital for them to choose the party that fights for Islam.
Dr Nik Mazian was quoted in an article as saying: “People are very satisfied because we control things which are haram. Umno can offer projects but if you support PAS, you support Islam and the reward is a place in heaven. Can Umno offer that? And if we win, we are offering Kelantan people 20% oil royalties.”
His remarks was then criticised by a blogger known as John F. Seademon who questioned how can a mere mortal promise a paradise or hell’s wrath.
“Twenty percent oil royalty…a big maybe. But of course they would have to kowtow to the very people who are known to be involved in the attempts to proselytise Muslims in Malaysia, and are so dead against Malaysia being known as an Islamic country, let alone enforce the sharia law!” Seademon wrote, referring to Pas’ co-operation with DAP who is against an Islamic state.
It has been reported that Pakatan Rakyat coalition, of which Pas is a part of, has rejected the implementation of hudud should the coalition win in the 13th general elections.
When pointed out that Pas has also partnered PKR and DAP which do not share the same principle (in upholding Islam), Dr Nik Mazian said: “In democracy and politics, it is only wise for Pas to accept help from other parties which can help us to topple the BN government.”
“They can have their own opinion. We work together to ensure that the BN government will be defeated,” he said.
